Democratic Party MP Agron Gjekmarkaj says that the new US ambassador to Albania, Eric Wendt, can influence the country's return to constitutional normality.

Gjekmarkaj described Wendt's appointment as an appreciation that President Donald Trump's administration has made to Albania.

According to him, the new ambassador's experience and authority, along with what he calls the new American policy towards Albania, could bring a new approach to the country.

Gjekmarkaj said that the investigations into the former head of SHISH in Albania must have shocked the FBI and law enforcement agencies in the US.

"The new US ambassador is a personality, a general, who has led troops on hot fronts of conflict. It is an assessment that has been made to Albania by the administration of President Trump. I think that his authority and personality, but also the new American policy, which sees Albania as a friendly and ally, will influence Albania's return to constitutional tracks, to the tracks of normality.

Bodies like the FBI and others operate, I think they have relationships, they have relationships with the security bodies in Albania. They must be shocked by what has happened at these levels, because it is unusual.

"It's as if the head of the CIA were collaborating with a high-ranking criminal, or being controlled by organized crime, which is what happened in Albania," Gjekmarkaj said in an interview.
