Ferit Hoxha, Minister of Foreign Affairs, is pushing forward the idea from a few months ago of changing our two ambassadors from two neighboring countries in the region, such as Skopje and Pristina.

One of the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs told Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu that on October 9, two hearings are scheduled in this committee, which are considered a rotation of ambassadors.

Denion Meidani, currently ambassador in Skopje, will be heard in this committee as proposed to lead Albanian diplomacy in Pristina.

Meanwhile, his colleague, Petrit Malaj, who has held the post of ambassador to Kosovo for three years, will present to this committee the platform on how he will move forward the management of our embassy in Skopje.

For the moment, Minister Ferit Hoxha's accompanying statement regarding these two proposals remains unclear, as to why he considered this rotation of ambassadors in Skopje and Pristina necessary.

We recall that the origins of these two changes were first learned during May, when Ambassador Denion Meidani sided with the student protests in Skopje.

At the time, there were several reports suggesting that Minister Ferit Hoxha had received several complaints from the ruling VMRO party and its Albanian ally VALEN about Ambassador Meidani's positions and role in those protests.

But the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs rejected these claims, calling them completely unfounded.

He emphasized in a reaction to the media that "every decision-making on appointments or diplomatic moves is made in accordance with the legislation in force and that these processes are based on professional and institutional analysis, with the aim of using human resources as efficiently as possible and in function of Albania's foreign policy priorities."

These are not the only two ambassadorial moves.

Last week, the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs held a hearing with our ambassador in London, Uran Ferizi, who has been entrusted with the leadership of the Albanian Mission to the OSCE in Vienna.

At the moment, it has not yet been decided who will be Albania's new ambassador to the United Kingdom.

An advocate for the rights of Albanians in North Macedonia and a powerful voice for Albanian issues in the region, Denion Meidani built his mandate in Skopje on active and present diplomacy. From advancing the One Stop Shop project, to distributing the Unified Primer, and taking strong diplomatic stances at times when Albanian political representation was lacking or weak, he sought to turn the Embassy into a concrete point of support for Albanians.

Particularly significant was the support for Albanian students in the cause of developing the jurisprudence exam in the Albanian language, a commitment addressed institutionally and publicly appreciated by the student representatives themselves. A mandate that aimed to make Albanian diplomacy more visible, closer to the community and more engaged with issues that directly affect Albanians in North Macedonia./TCH
