The European People's Parties have called on the Albanian government to swiftly investigate any use of disproportionate violence by the police while demanding that the police be cautious in their reactions.

The statement published in X emphasizes that Albania's future must come with an accountable government, the rule of law, the fight against corruption, and opportunities within the country. The statement calls for a reduction in tensions and dialogue between the parties.

"The right to protest peacefully must be fully respected.

Any allegations of excessive, unlawful and disproportionate use of force must be investigated promptly, fully and independently, and law enforcement agencies must act proportionately at all times.

Albania's future lies in a democratic, prosperous and European path, with an accountable government, the rule of law, the fight against corruption and opportunities for the future within the country.

Any unlawful act of violence and any attack by any party, especially against property and the physical integrity of persons, has no place in a democracy. Current tensions must be addressed through dialogue, de-escalation and democratic engagement.

"The voices of young people must be heard and their right to peacefully protest must be protected," the statement said.
