The Union of Judges of Albania has responded negatively to Prime Minister Edi Rama's invitation to participate in the consultation roundtable to be held today regarding the salaries of magistrates. Rama called a roundtable discussion today at 12:30, following tensions created between representatives of the judiciary and the executive.

Through an official statement from the Board of Directors, the UGJSH explains that, although it values institutional dialogue as a means of finding constitutional solutions, participation in this consultation is impossible given the fact that the issue of salaries is still under review by the Constitutional Court.

The judges emphasize that the lawsuit filed by them opposes recent legal changes and demands the unquestioning implementation of the Constitutional Court's decision, which sets the minimum wage standard and a sustainable mechanism for the future.

"The Constitutional Court considers it necessary to preserve intact the boundaries of the constitutional jurisdiction of this Court, the principles that guarantee its objectivity and impartiality, as well as the principles that guarantee the functioning of a state governed by law," the statement reads.

The Union underlined that this non-participation does not mean the closure of the institutional dialogue, but rather requires clarification of the legal situation by the Constitutional Court before sitting down at the table.
