The State Police and the Tirana Local Police Directorate have issued official clarifications regarding the cases reported yesterday evening (October 15) during the student protest.

Specifically, it was claimed on the networks that Serbian mercenaries were engaged to arrest and rape protesters in Tirana. The State Police refutes the claims about the engagement of mercenaries from Serbia in the protest, to carry out mass arrests and rapes against protesters.

In the official announcement, the Police describe these claims as untrue and malicious, emphasizing that they aim to exploit nationalist sentiments to create a conflictual climate and undermine citizens' trust in the State Police.

There were also allegations that Serbian police and unidentified persons were kidnapping girls, releasing videos.

Regarding this case, the Police clarify that the person escorted is male and not female and the escort was carried out by Criminal Police officers, as part of the actions taken to identify and escort persons suspected of involvement in illegal actions during the protest.

Police reaction:

The State Police expresses regret for the spread of false news on social networks, through which it is claimed that police officers from Serbia have been engaged in its ranks.

The spread of these completely false and malicious claims aims to exploit nationalist sentiments to create a conflictual climate and undermine citizens' trust in the State Police.

The State Police clarifies that in the rally of 15.10.2026, as in any other rally, only State Police employees were engaged, scheduled for service based on the plan of measures. The claim about the engagement of police employees from Serbia is completely untrue.

Regarding several videos published on social networks, where it is alleged that some civilians have forcibly escorted a female citizen, Tirana Police clarifies that the person escorted is male and not female.

The escort was carried out by Criminal Police officers, as part of the actions taken to identify and escort persons suspected of involvement in illegal actions during the protest, as it is suspected that this citizen was leading the protesters and throwing metal dice at Police officers and institutions.

Also, regarding the claims published on social media that police officers have used metal cables, the Tirana Police informs that the cables published in the media were seized on the morning of 15.10.2026 from four masked young men, who were going to a protest to hit protesters. The Tirana Police does not use such tools, as the types of tools it uses are standardized by law and standard procedures.

Meanwhile, we clarify that a group of masked protesters, in the evening hours of 15.10.2026, went to the Student Center and broke the windows and doors of the Student Center buildings in Student City. The police have carried out all procedural actions and continue to work to identify and capture the perpetrators.

At the same time, we clarify to the public that no police officer has resigned and there is no order to use violence against escorted persons.

The Tirana Police expresses its regret for the spread of these malicious news, with the aim of creating a conflictual climate between the Police and the protesters. The Tirana Police respects and guarantees the right to protest peacefully and appeals to participants in the gatherings to distance themselves from violent and masked individuals, who are attacking Police officers, state institutions and public and private property.

During the rally on 15.10.2026, as a result of the violence, 22 police officers were injured. In addition, institutions, private and banking facilities were damaged, as well as road signs.

Tirana Police is continuing its work to identify and capture persons who have committed acts of violence.
