Albanian exchanging letters with Joe Biden confesses: Here's what the

Olsian Noreci, an immigrant from Albania, has a very interesting history. He has exchanged two letters with United States President Joe Biden.

Just a few days ago, Mr. Noreci received answers to his second letter, where the President encourages him, through him all Americans, to work together to find the common language and make America as he says, a country with prosperity and security.

Voice of America: Mr. Noreci, what prompted you to write to the President?

Olsian Noreci: First, as an Albanian immigrant who came to America, despite those difficulties of beginning, I tried to write to the American President about all those things he has done for the Albanian nation. In particular for Kosovo and his son who served in Kosovo through American troops, and everything that is related to Albania and which he has done for Albania. I welcomed his letter very willingly. Luckily that letter came to me, i got a response from the American President last year, his first letter.

Voice of America: How did you feel when you got the answer with the second letter?

Olsian Noreci: No question that the second letter is more significant. The letter gives me courage, says it not only for me, for every Albanian, every American, who feels himself a little American. It shows a lot of that letter, in which I address every albanian to feel grateful to the United States of America and must appreciate America for every initiative it has undertaken for the Albanian people and for our nation. It is a pleasure that this year we celebrated the 100th anniversary of Albania-America relations. America has never left us behind in any direction. We must be grateful to the United States of America for everything, and in particular the American President who has taken a very serious and very sincere initiative to help the Albanian people, reform in justice. I have the honour of thanking the United States Ambassador to Albania for this very important initiative to help reform justice. I hope this will help strengthen justice and fight corruption in Albania.

Voice of America: You came to the United States just six years ago and wrote to the American President and received answers. What does the answer mean to you in itself?

Olsian Noreci: The truth is, taking a little bit of that wise Albanian word that you don't have what to lose, I proved I had nothing to lose, waiting for a long time for an answer to the documents. I wrote to the American President, thanking him for everything not only for my personal reason, but thanking him as President and congratulating him on winning the race for president. I thanked him for everything he has contributed since 1992–93 to the Balkans, in particular for Kosovo in 1998–99 and for his son who served in Kosovo. That was pretty much the contents of the first letter. In the second letter, the moment i received the first letter, I asked the President for a series of things for Albania, so that those initiatives that have been undertaken so far go all the way and serve the Albanian people.

Voice of America: What is your experience as an immigrant to the United States?

Olsian Noreci: Every state has its own difficulties, but the right is right, and when something deserves it, it's America. Freedom of speech and the right to be free are important in America. In fact, when albanians mention democracy we refer to the United States. So democracy is the United States of America. America should be thanked for all it has given to the Albanian people, and any immigrant who welcomes and encourages, gives it the opportunity, shows them what the values of this state are.
