Netflix doesn't stop efforts to tariff 'password sharing'

Netflix is trying a new strategy in its effort to find a way to make people pay for the distribution of their account passwords.

The company announced Monday that it will try a new one to force people to pay for account sharing in five new countries-- Argentina, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

Netflix said it will add an option to "add a home" to the account, which will allow users to buy the right to watch Netflix in different countries from the main settlement linked to the account for $2.99 per month.

The company has already tested new password-sharing rules in Costa Rica, Chile and Peru. In these countries Netflix tested users' fees to allow individual members outside their family to watch Netflix.

Netflix signaled its intention to crack down on password sharing in April when it first posted declines in the number of new subscriptions.

It is not clear exactly when Netflix can implement its crackdown on password distribution globally. Chief Operating Officers Greg Peters said he believes it will take about a year for Netflix to test its ideas before applying this worldwide.
