"Friends" actor Matthew Perry was dead when the ambulance arrived at his home after paramedics pulled his head out of the water trying to save him.
Despite drowning Saturday in the jacuzzi of his Pacific Palisades villa, the mystery still lingers around Chandler's final hours as clues to the robbery and murder are also being investigated.
The police, given the fact that Matthew was a celebrity, opened a preliminary investigation into murder and robbery, although no fractures or signs of violence were found on his body.
The word now goes to the experts. It will now take weeks, if not months, to reconstruct what happened in the short period of time in which the actor was home alone.
Suspicions exist of a heart attack, the effect of drugs that may have caused him to lose consciousness, or a fault in the bath's electrical supply. Perry had sent the assistant out on some errands and by the time he returned it was too late.
"It didn't stay in the water very long," sources told TMZ, a fact that adds more to the question mark about a tragedy.
Matthew was living alone, as with his last partner Molly Hurwitz, the relationship that began in 2018, when he had resurfaced after putting his major health problems behind him, had broken down in 2021.
