A massive fire at a luxury hotel in a ski resort in Kartalkaya, in the province of Bolu, has killed at least 76 people and injured dozens, with the death toll expected to rise. The hotel, which accommodated 240 guests, did not have a functioning fire alarm and extinguishing system. The fire is believed to have broken out in the hotel's kitchen during breakfast preparations yesterday.

Firefighters arrived late due to the distance and difficult access to the area, making the situation even more tragic.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared a day of national mourning and vowed that those responsible would be held accountable. He expressed condolences to the families of the victims, calling it a tragedy that has shaken the hearts of the nation.

The event has caused great anger in the Turkish media, which have criticized the lack of security measures and reported on inappropriate behavior of some individuals who continued to ski near the scene of the tragedy while the bodies of the victims were being removed from the hotel.
