Last week, classified documents were found in former Vice President Mike Pence's home in Indiana. The news was made known by the American media according to a letter that Mr. Pence's lawyers sent to the National Archives.

The Department of Justice and the FBI have launched an investigation into how the classified documents ended up at the Pence home. This is the latest find in a string of revelations in private residences of secret documents.

"It appears to be a small number of documents, marked classified, that were inadvertently packed and transported to the former vice president's private home at the end of his term," said Pence's attorney, Greg Jacob.

According to him, Pence "hired an outside lawyer, experienced in handling classified documents, to review records stored in his home after it became public that classified documents had been found in President Joe Biden's private home in Wilmington." .

Pence's lawyer stated in the letter that the former vice president "was not aware of the existence of sensitive or classified documents in his home" and that "he understands the great importance of protecting sensitive and classified data and that he is ready to co-operate fully with the National Archives and any necessary investigations".

The attorney said Pence immediately secured the documents that were discovered in a safe.

According to a second letter from the lawyer, dated Jan. 22, FBI agents visited Mr. Pence's residence to retrieve the documents.

The Justice Department has already hired special prosecutors to investigate the discovery of classified documents at former President Donald Trump's Florida residence and President Biden's home and former office.
