There is no agreement on a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Pope, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. Speaking to the press, Peskov commented on the statement by Pope Francis, who proposed meeting with Putin in Moscow during an interview with Corriere della Sera.

Asked by reporters if the Holy See has contacted the Russian presidential administration, proposing a meeting between the two leaders, the spokesman replied: These initiatives have been sent through diplomatic channels. No meeting arrangements have been reached. Peskov refused to assess the need and opportunity for talks between Putin and the Pope at this time.
