Tech billionaire Elon Musk expressed his concern on Tuesday about the worsening demographic crisis in Greece, after reports confirmed that our southern neighbor will close more than 700 schools for the 2025-2026 academic year due to a declining birth rate.
Musk shared an article from Visegrád 24 on his 'X' platform profile, writing just two words: "The Death of Greece."

The post quickly went viral, garnering over 1.8 million views within hours and sparking heated discussions on social media.
Meanwhile, according to official figures, Greece will close 721 schools across the country this year, including 324 primary schools and 358 kindergartens. The closures reflect the dramatic decline in student numbers in the country, with Greece recording one of the lowest fertility rates in the European Union, at around 1.3 births per woman.
The announcement has intensified concerns about the country's long-term sustainability, with experts warning of severe consequences for the economy, workforce and social structure if the demographic decline is not reversed.
Meanwhile, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly spoken about declining global birth rates, often calling them one of the biggest threats to civilization.
He has argued that economic growth, innovation and even the preservation of culture are at risk if birth rates continue to fall below replacement levels.
His harsh phrase, "The Death of Greece," is being interpreted by many as a warning not only to Athens, but also to other countries facing similar demographic challenges, such as Italy, Spain and Japan.
The post sparked a wave of online reactions. Some users echoed Musk's alarm, calling the school closures a "national tragedy," while others argued that immigration, policy reform and technological innovation could alleviate the crisis.
