Former head of Britain's MI6 intelligence service, Richard Moore, has praised Ukraine's ability to strike targets deep inside Russian territory, saying Kiev is doing an "extraordinary" job in damaging the infrastructure that supports Moscow's military efforts.
In an interview with BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Moore said the Russian economy was struggling to cope with Ukraine's ability to launch attacks deep into Russian territory. According to him, Ukrainian forces were holding out well on the front line, while Russia was suffering heavy losses.
However, he stressed that Ukraine continues to be under strong pressure due to Russian missile attacks on civilian energy infrastructure.
Moore called Britain's decision to give Ukraine plans for long-range missiles a "very important signal." He also praised Kiev's efforts to develop its defense industry.
But the former head of MI6 warned that Ukraine is facing a shortage of Patriot interceptor missiles, which are used to stop Russian attacks. According to him, compared to a few months ago, a greater number of Russian missiles are managing to penetrate Ukrainian air defenses.
