Russia-Ukraine confrontation escalates, US envoys' visit to Moscow

US President Donald Trump's envoys, Steve Wittkopf and Jared Kushner, have postponed their planned visit to Moscow.

At a time when attention is focused on American moves regarding the war in Ukraine, a source told the Russian news agency TASS on Sunday that the planned visit to Moscow by US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Wittkopf, and Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law, has been postponed.

The source stressed that the visit is unlikely to happen before the end of August, adding that "there are reasons for its postponement," without giving details. It had previously been reported that Wittkopf and Kushner could visit Kiev and Moscow by the end of August as part of diplomatic efforts on the Ukrainian issue.

In contrast, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that President Vladimir Putin is willing to meet again with the American envoys, but stressed that this depends on the nature of the proposals they will bring.

The postponement of the visit comes at a time when the confrontation between Moscow and Kiev is experiencing a new escalation inside Russian territory, with Ukrainian drone attacks continuing against targets far from the front lines.

President Putin declared that "Ukraine has opened the gates of hell for itself with its attacks on economic targets."
