Ukraine on the ground, Russia attacks the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia

Ukraine's strategic energy points have been targeted by the Russian military. A series of bombings have been carried out at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, causing power outages.

Ukrainian authorities report that the nuclear power plant is on the verge of shutting down.

"The invaders carried out more than 15 attacks on power buildings. The city, in fact, is completely destroyed," says Oleh Synyehubov, head of the regional military administration in Kharkiv.

Waves of attacks have also appeared on the hydropower plant in Dnipro. Dozens of people were injured as the Russians hit civilian infrastructure, causing extensive damage.

"The Russian army launched overnight the biggest attack on Ukraine's energy facilities since last year. The objective is not only to damage, but to cause a collapse of the country's energy system, power generation plants, transmission and distribution systems. There are outages in some regions. It was a difficult night", said Herman Galushchenko, Minister of Energy in Ukraine.

Karkhiv is the most damaged city as a result of the bombing. The attacks in Kharkiv and Zaporizhia come a day after the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, faced a massive attack by drones and missiles, including ballistic ones, launched by Russia.

Numerous Russian missiles on the territory of Ukraine have put Poland on alert, which has raised military aircraft on patrol. This was announced by the Armed Forces of Poland.

The Polish military adds that "all necessary procedures have been initiated to ensure the safety of Polish airspace" while "the situation is constantly monitored".
