A judge has ordered Donald Trump to be sentenced on January 10 in the hush money case.
The ruling is expected less than two weeks before Trump is sworn in as president, but New York Judge Juan Merchan signaled that he will not sentence Trump to prison, probation or a fine, but will instead grant him an “unconditional discharge.” The president-elect can appear in person or virtually for the hearing.
Trump has tried to use his victory in the presidential election to drop the case against him.
He has described the court case as an "illegal political attack."
In May, jurors found Trump guilty of falsifying business records to hide payments of money made to former adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential election campaign.
With the verdict, he became the first US president to be convicted of a crime, while repeatedly calling the trial rigged and politically motivated.
