US President Donald Trump has reignited controversy with his latest statements about the war in Ukraine, blaming not only Kiev but also world leaders for starting the conflict.

During a meeting in the Oval Office with El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele, Trump said that "the mistake was that we let the war happen" and that "you should never start a war with someone who is 20 times bigger."

He later tried to correct his stance, distributing responsibility between President Joe Biden, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, and Russian President Vladimir Putin:

"This is a war that should never have started. Biden failed to stop it, Zelensky could have, and Putin should never have started it. It's everyone's fault."

Trump also announced that some concrete proposals to stop the conflict in Ukraine will be presented soon, without providing further details.

Meanwhile, the situation on the ground remains dramatic. A day after the bombing of the Ukrainian city of Sumy, the Kremlin, through spokesman Dmitry Peskov, declared that Russia was hitting “only military targets.” But according to Ukrainian authorities, 34 civilians, including two children, were killed in the latest attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted by stressing that if Putin does not stop in Ukraine, he may attempt to invade NATO territory, escalating the situation towards a global conflict: "If we are not decisive, Moscow will advance further. Its goal is to recreate a Russian empire," he said.

Zelensky also commented on recent statements by Trump and his Vice President JD Vance, saying: "There is no middle ground here. There is an aggressor and a victim. The Russians are the aggressor, we are the victims. It is clear to everyone."
