The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has reacted sharply to the Government's stance regarding trade policies towards the United States of America, calling it unacceptable that Kosovo maintains customs tariffs towards its most important ally, while having zero customs tariffs towards Serbia.

In a recent interview, Osmani emphasized that this issue is not only related to fiscal policies, but to the country's strategic positioning, adding that this is a great shame.

"Today in April 2025, Kosovo has zero tariffs on Serbia, while it has imposed tariffs on its existential ally, the US. For me, this is a shame, there is no greater shame," she said.

The President expressed disappointment that her proposal to remove these customs tariffs was not welcomed by state institutions.

"I am not the President of Serbia, I am the President of Kosovo and I defend the interests of this state. The proposals that come from the citizens must be heard, and even more so those that come from the President. I actually saw rejection, in practice this is rejection," she underlined.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, has publicly opposed the President's positions, criticizing her proposal to remove customs tariffs against the US, which has further deepened the clashes between the country's two highest institutions.
