Kosovar Demo Berisha has been nominated for the position of Minister for Human and Minority Rights in the Government of Serbia.
Berisha is known as the Albanian who does not recognize the independence of Kosovo and has publicly declared that his homeland is Serbia.
Demo Berisha states that he was born in Peja and lives in Novi Sad. In an interview for Vojvodina television (RTV Panonia and Channel 9), he says that he completed primary school in Kosovo, and then continued in Sarajevo, where he completed military school, then in Novi Sad.
He says he was a member of the Yugoslav army and finished his career in the Serbian army, working for a long time in the military police.
"I was born in Kosovo. I finished primary school in Kosovo. Then I finished secondary school in Sarajevo and continued my education in Novi Sad. Otherwise, I was a member of the Yugoslav army. Then, I finished my career in the Serbian Army. I worked for many years in the military police in Novi Sad. I am married and have two children," he said.
For Berisha, his homeland is Serbia and it also includes the Republic of Kosovo.
"The association operates throughout the territory of Serbia. I do not divide Serbia. When I talk about the territory of Serbia, I do not divide Serbia into internal Serbia and Kosovo. I believe in the Constitution and I say that Serbia is indivisible," he said.
Berisha was not prevented from remaining in the Serbian army by the crimes committed by the Serbian army before and during the 1999 war in Kosovo, and for him, Kosovo is part of Serbia.
He even continues to call Kosovo "Kosovo and Metohija."
He believes that he is not the only Albanian who thinks this way, and therefore, in 2014, he founded the non-governmental organization "Ama e Albanianëve të Srbija" (Matica Albanaca Srbije - MAS) in Serbia, which according to him has 4,600 members in the territory of Vojvodina out of 6,000 Albanians, which according to Berisha there are in Vojvodina, while in the entire territory of Serbia he says there are over 180,000 Albanians.
He states that the association deals with Albanian-Serbian relations, and more importantly, the advancement of some rights of Albanians in Serbia, media in Kosovo report.
