Tensions in the North of Kosovo / Stoltenberg: Belgrade and Pristina to
Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg

"My message to both parties is to refrain from additional escalation and provocative rhetoric", said the Secretary General of NATO, about the tensions created for 4 days in the north of Kosovo.

In an interview for France 24, the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, commented on the tensions in Kosovo and said that the NATO forces are ready, and that they are cooperating closely with the EU.

"NATO is very focused on Kosovo, in the Western Balkans. We have a long history, we helped stop two ethnic wars. First in Bosnia and Herzegovina and later in Kosovo. Of course, we are still present there, KFOR forces number more than 4,000 soldiers and they play a key role in stabilizing the situation," Stoltenberg said.

"Our forces are capable, ready, but also on alert. They are monitoring the situation very closely. NATO and the EU cooperate very closely and my message to both sides is to refrain from further escalation and provocative rhetoric. calls to ease tensions in Kosovo", added Stoltenberg.

We remind you that Serbs from the north of Kosovo have blocked the main roads in protest against the arrest of a former member of the Kosovo police, who resigned from his position last month along with other Serbs. KFOR and EULEX appealed to the citizens to unblock the roads, but this has not yet happened.

The US and UK urged Serbia to invite local Serbs to remove the barricades.
