Who are the "Masks of the North" in Kosovo and who is behind them?

Armed persons with masks have shot policemen and EULEX officials, but have also terrorized the residents of four northern municipalities of Kosovo during this month.

These people continue to be unknown to security authorities, at least until now, as it is not officially known if any of them have been arrested.

But who are the people hiding behind the masks?

The former commander of the Kosovo Security Force, Kadri Kastrati, says that these people are supported by Serbia.

Therefore, Kastrati adds that the law enforcement agencies find it difficult to identify them.

"They have almost military formations and it is impossible for the Kosovo police to identify them since they are wearing masks. They throw the stone and hide their hand as the people say".

He does not even rule out the possibility that some of them may be ex-policemen of Kosovo, as the Minister of Internal Affairs himself, Xhelal Sveçla, said.

"They are not ordinary citizens. They have a structure, it's Radojeçiçi, Rakiçi is directly involved there, since Lista Serbe is directed from Belgrade", he adds.

However, the former general is convinced that the security authorities in the country have knowledge of their operation.

"The Kosovar Intelligence Agency is working and I believe very much that they will identify them and they will respond later, but now they certainly don't want the situation to escalate even more."

As for Fadil Kajtazi, an expert on security issues, all these acts are the work of the Serbian intelligence services, which they do to scare the population of the north, so that they will not be accepted by the Kosovar state bodies.

'Wet actions', according to a logic that water cleans everything, so the idea is to disappear traces and traces did not disappear without the cleaner who throws water on the traces. Without this logistics, the actions of the Serbian services in the north will be 'dry', and the security bodies of Kosovo would not have a hard time identifying the masked people of the north and bring them to court", Kajtazi emphasizes. AP.

However, he raises the alarm that the situation in the coming days may get complicated, as he says that "the Russian mercenary group "Wagner" is located in Belgrade, which the Serbian intelligence services can engage through mafia groups operating in the north".

"These actions are developed with intensity, depending on how these services evaluate the situation and try to be between legal and illegal, synchronizing them with the situations that develop in international relations".

Kajtazi thinks that in the work of intelligent services, the logic of actions is in small groups which then create the involvement of many people according to the inertia of the development of events.

"In this structure, there may also be former Kosovo policemen of Serbian nationality, but not in large numbers, and this is done to preserve the conspiracy of the action", he asserts.

On October 25, it was reported about a disturbing EULEX intelligence document on the appearance of a Serbian paramilitary force in the north of Kosovo.

According to PA sources, these findings were also supported by KFOR intelligence and were presented to the highest diplomatic authorities.

The report says that this paramilitary force, which in some countries appears under the name "Northern Brigade", has about 300 well-armed members.

The intelligence report describes them as an acute threat to security and order in Kosovo.

Some of them are considered not to be of Kosovo origin, but to have come from Serbia, maybe even from the Serbian Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
