The Special Court in The Hague is expected to publish today, July 16, the decision regarding the motion filed by the defense teams of the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, who are requesting the dismissal of several counts of the indictment for alleged war crimes.
As media in Kosovo report, Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi had until June 12 to submit their motions, while the Specialized Prosecutor's Office had to provide a response by July 7.
This decision is expected to directly impact the further course of the trial, which began on April 3, 2023, three years after the indictment was confirmed.
The defense of the accused has expressed optimism for a positive outcome at this stage of the process.
Thaçi, Veseli, Krasniqi and Selimi have been in detention in The Hague since November 2020.
Meanwhile, the Special Court continues to face criticism for lack of transparency and limited public access to the process, while concerns about respect for fair trial standards have also been raised by the Ombudsman of Kosovo, Naim Qelaj.
