Melania Trump has unexpectedly emerged as a sympathetic figure for many Ukrainians and Ukrainian supporters on social media, following statements by US President Donald Trump, who suggested that the First Lady has influenced his stance on Russia.

During a statement on Monday at the White House, in a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump recounted a conversation with his wife, where she had pointed out the hypocrisy of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Talking to him [Putin] is always very pleasant. I say to Melania: I had a wonderful conversation with Vladimir today. And she says to me: Really? Meanwhile, another Ukrainian city has just been bombed," Trump said.

Melania Trump, of Slovenian origin and raised in the former Yugoslavia, has previously expressed a more sensitive stance towards Ukraine than her husband, who only in February of this year called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a "dictator."

At the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2022, Melania called for support for the Red Cross, stating that it was "devastating and horrific to see innocent people suffering."

Following Trump's recent statements, social media has been filled with memes depicting Melania as a "secret agent" in the service of Ukraine.

One of them, which has gone viral, describes her as " Agent Melania Trumpenko ," with a photo of her in a suit and hat covering her face as if she were acting covertly in the White House on behalf of Kiev.

Business in Ukraine magazine writes that " there's a lot of love for Melania Trump tonight on social media ," commenting at the same time on the news that the US will send Patriot missile systems to Ukraine.

Another meme brought back from the past features three figures in military helmets placing a hat with the Ukrainian flag on Melania.

While another meme places the First Lady behind Trump in the Oval Office as he signs a presidential decree, with the caption: " Melania Sisters of the Bene Gesserit ," a satirical reference to the powerful female order from Frank Herbert's science fiction novel Dune.

On the network, many users see Melania as a silent figure, but perhaps acting indirectly to bring the US closer to Ukraine, an ironic context that has turned the First Lady into a symbol of a kind of "elegant resistance."
