A powerful explosion rocked the Piana del Sole area of Rome on Sunday morning, collapsing two two-story buildings, seriously injuring two people and leaving two others trapped under the rubble.

The explosion was so powerful that it damaged other buildings nearby. As a result, about 70 residents were evacuated from the area for safety reasons.

The incident occurred at the intersection of via Tavagnasco and via Cigliè. Initial investigations suggest that the cause of the explosion was a gas leak.

Authorities are at the scene and investigations are ongoing to fully clarify the circumstances.
