Paris bans rental scooters

Paris is the first capital in Europe to completely ban the rental of electric scooters, due to the increase in the number of victims and injuries with these vehicles in recent years.

Electric scooters accessible from smartphones via apps arrived in the French capital in 2018, and the municipality sought to regulate their use in 2020 with certain laws, limiting the number of authorized operators to three.

But after two years the Paris City Council encouraged citizens not to use them, lamenting that accidents had increased by 189% since 2019.

Then, in the municipal referendum for their removal from use, almost 90% of the voters who went to the polling stations voted in favor of the ban.
