After the interviews recently given by Prime Minister Edi Rama to the Greek media, the reaction of the Greek interior minister and the subsequent response from the Albanian side, Fredi Beleri's brother reacted.

He gave an interview to the Greek television "Action24", he stated that Fredi Beleri's message is that he will stay in prison as long as necessary and that he will respect the decision and the votes of the Himariots.

"I am obliged to respect the decision and the votes I received from 4,000 Himariots. I will stay as long as necessary", said Leonard Beleri on behalf of his brother.

"The Albanian side wants not to allow the Municipality to pass into the hands of Greece. This is clear, after so many applications for the release of the Himara mayor so that he can take the oath. Unfortunately there is no will. From May 12 until today, we are sure that this was planned from the beginning, so that the Municipality of Himara does not change hands", he emphasized.
He further added that "this delay benefits Rama, because he has lost this municipality, but the administration remains with the previous authority. Greece must insist and find a solution immediately", Beler's brother said.

The Greek media write that the gap between Athens and Tirana is growing after the rejection of the last request of the elected mayor of the Himarë municipality, Fredi Beleri, for his release from the accusation of 'buying votes'.

The case of Fredi Beleri, who is in custody in the prison hospital in Tirana, seems to have entered a stalemate, while the diplomatic consequences are already evident in the relations between Greece and Albania.

The last bail request of the elected mayor of Himara was reviewed last Monday by the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime of Tirana and was rejected.

All requests by his lawyers to obtain even a license from the prison to take the oath and officially assume his duties were also rejected.

Beleri has been in custody since May 12 on charges of attempted vote-buying and according to the Albanian electoral law, if a mayor is not sworn in within three months, he is dismissed and the elections are repeated.

Skenari më pozitivë për momentin është, nëse Tirana vendos t’i japë fund kësaj krize, që Belerit t’i jepet një leje administrative, qoftë edhe disa orëshe, për të bërë betimin.

Skenari i dytë është që qeveria shqiptare të shpallë zgjedhje në Himarë me Belerin në paraburgim pa qenë i dënuar. Në këtë rast, ai do të ruajë dosjen e pastër kriminale dhe do të mundet, qoftë edhe nga burgu, të jetë sërish kandidat.
