Russia launches airstrikes in Odesa

Several explosions were heard in the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa early on Tuesday, about 24 hours after the attack on the Crimean bridge linking the annexed peninsula with Russia. CNN reports that warning sirens sounded around 2 a.m. local time as air defenses swooped across the city.

Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa region's military administration, said Russia was using drones. "Several waves of attacks are expected. There is also a missile threat!” Kiper added in a Telegram post. He called on residents to stay in their homes until the air raid sirens died down.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday described the attack on the Crimean bridge as a "terrorist attack" and vowed that Moscow would respond. Shortly after midnight local time, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said that one lane of the bridge was open to cars.
