Why was there no radiation after the US attack? Did Iran move enriched uranium before the strike and the suspicions of the truck photos

Albert Einstein once said that “it is easier to split an atom than to split people’s prejudices”. We must hope that he was wrong because if overcoming people’s prejudices is a Sisyphean battle, unfortunately splitting an atom is possible. And the result of the latter is radioactivity. This issue has returned after American bombings, capable of penetrating deep into Iranian bunkers where uranium is enriched.

Iran has 3 nuclear sites: in Natanz (hit from the very beginning), the Kolan Gaz site (the third built in chronological order), but above all Fordow, the so-called atomic mountain. GBU-57 bombs were certainly used in Fordow, southwest of Tehran. Natanz has or had before the bombings 10 thousand centrifuges, according to estimates. Fordow is believed to house the most powerful ones, capable of enriching uranium up to 60% (for the equipment it is estimated that it should reach 90%).

Were there any nuclear reactions? The IAEA has reported that the latest attacks, at least those on the Isfahan complex, have hit six buildings in addition to the four previously damaged, but these contained little or no nuclear material. “The structures hit today did not contain nuclear material or small amounts of natural or low-enriched uranium, meaning that any radioactive contamination is limited to the buildings that were damaged or destroyed,” the statement said.

Satellite images from Maxar Technologies also showed movement around the site between June 19 and 20 by trucks. It is possible that some of the nuclear material was removed during those days. However, it is highly unlikely that Khamenei's regime would have moved enriched uranium in simple trucks. It is not a material that can be put in a box or a bag.

The Iranian Mehr news agency claimed that the enriched uranium had been secured in advance in anticipation of an attack. However, it is difficult in the “fog of war” to separate propaganda, counter-information from reality. If it had been done, then the Iranian secret services would have scored points by moving it before the bombing began, given the complexity of the operation.

It is important to note that at the moment there is no evidence that Iran had all the complex parts for the construction and use of military nuclear devices. The West must avoid the mistake of repeating what happened with the phantom weapons of mass destruction in Iraq after September 11, 2001. Israel and the US are shouting victory for the “destruction” of the Iranian military nuclear program. But we must wait for evidence whether an Iranian military nuclear program exists. /Corriere della Sera
