Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has confirmed that the country will go to early parliamentary elections, which are expected to be held on October 18 or 25. Speaking on Serbian public television RTS, Vučić said that the final date will be determined in the coming days.
"The parliamentary elections in Serbia will take place, as things stand, either on October 18 or 25. We will know this in a few days," the Serbian president declared.
According to him, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and its allies will compete in the elections on one list, while other political forces are expected to be included on the other list.
Vučić stressed that he does not want to directly intervene in the party race due to the position he holds as president.
Speaking about the result he expects from the elections, Vučić said that the political force he supports will aim to win the majority of seats in parliament.
"We will fight to win the majority of votes. We know that we will not have a majority if we do not get 126 seats," he said.
The new elections are expected to take place in a tense political climate in Serbia, after months of clashes, protests and intense political debates in the country. The final date for the elections is expected to be officially confirmed in the coming days.
