The plane, a Cessna 441, was flying from Anchorage to Cape Newenham, about 450 miles southwest, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The crash occurred near the destination at about 12:15 p.m. Thursday, according to preliminary data.

There were two pilots and six passengers on board. The charter flight was operated by Security Aviation. The Alaska Command confirmed that search and rescue teams arrived at the scene and found no survivors.

The plane crashed at Cape Newenham Airport, a US Air Force airstrip that serves as access to a long-range radar facility. Only military flights and authorized charter flights are permitted at this airport. The cause of the crash remains unclear.

"This is a devastating loss for our military family and the communities we serve," said US Air Force Lieutenant General Robert Davis, describing the victims as dedicated professionals who were carrying out an important mission in a difficult environment.

Authorities have announced that the names of the victims will be released only after their families have been officially notified.
