Iran's new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is "wounded, isolated and unresponsive to messages," US and Israeli security officials told The Washington Post.
According to Israeli officials, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and some clerics have strengthened their control over Iran.
The Axios portal reported on Saturday that the US Central Intelligence Agency, Israel's Mossad and other intelligence agencies are working to track Khamenei, as he has remained "invisible" since being declared the new supreme leader following the assassination of his father Ali Khamenei on February 28.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegsett stated on March 13 that Mojtaba Khamenei was "wounded and possibly disfigured."
Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed Iran's new supreme leader on March 8 and has not appeared in public since, and only on March 12, four days after his appointment, did he send a written message through Iranian state media announcing the continuation of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
