European authorities are on alert after a known drug trafficker who planned to execute the heir to the Dutch throne and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte was mistakenly released from prison in Spain.

Politico reports that after a "judicial confusion", Madrid has freed the dangerous head of the Mocro Mafia cartel, Karim Bouyakhrichan, who was arrested in Marbella last January during a mega-operation against money laundering.

In 2022, Karim Bouyakhrichan was planning to kidnap or kill the heir to the throne, the Dutch princess Amalia. She was then forced to leave the student residence and return to the royal palace after the police received credible evidence of the drug cartel's plan.

When Dutch authorities learned of his arrest, they filed an extradition request with Spain's National Court, demanding that Karim face justice in the Netherlands, where he is accused of drug trafficking.

In the request of the Dutch authorities, it was emphasized that the cartel boss was one of the most dangerous on the list of wanted criminals of Interpol. He was wanted for his role in a decade-long drug war in Europe that left dozens dead in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Morocco.

Madrid's National Court ordered the extradition of the notorious drug trafficker to the Netherlands, but the Malaga District Court, which has jurisdiction over the area where Karim Bouyakhrichan was arrested, refused to grant the request, arguing that the drug kingpin should face charges of money laundering in Spain before being extradited to another country.

The Spanish radio network, 'Cadena SER', revealed today that although Spain's National Court granted the Dutch's request, it neglected to issue an arrest warrant that would have ensured Karim Bouyakhrichan remains behind bars pending extradition.

When the money laundering case was heard for the first time in Malaga's provincial court last month, the presiding judge agreed to release the gang leader on bail of 50,000 euros. For Karim Bouyakhrichan, who has bank accounts and real estate around the world, it was not difficult at all to find the money to win bail and as soon as he left the cell, he disappeared from the city and since then the authorities have not found him more.
