The Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, has reacted after the removal of the Ukrainian flag and the inscription "Free Ukraine" from a hotel building in the center of the capital.

The action comes after statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to Serbia, where in a joint conference with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, he stated that Ukraine does not change its position on the non-recognition of the state of Kosovo.

In his reaction, the head of the Municipality of Pristina said that solidarity with peoples facing war and persecution cannot be at the expense of respect for the state of Kosovo.

"Our empathy and solidarity will always be with the peoples facing war, violence and persecution. Because we, better than many others, know what it means to fight for freedom, dignity and the right to exist as a state. But no cause and no policy can be built by belittling the statehood of Kosovo and the sacrifice of its people. When Kosovo is not respected, our response must always be the same: respect is mutual," Rama wrote.

The removal of the Ukrainian flag and the inscription in the center of Pristina was also accompanied by images published by the mayor himself.
