A young girl from Britain discovered that she was born without a uterus after not having her first menstrual cycle at the age of 17. Vics Lane was diagnosed three years ago with Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome, writes "The Mirror".

The rare disorder affects 1 in 5,000 women. Those born with this syndrome have regular external genitalia and normal sexual characteristics, but have poorly developed vaginal and uterine canals.

The disorder occurs in the first 8 weeks of pregnancy and is noticed only when puberty begins and the menstrual cycle does not begin. Vics went to her doctor because she had problems with eating, but when she found out that she had no periods at the age of 17, she raised the alarm.

Tests initially showed that there was no uterus or ovaries. Further tests found that she actually has two small tubes in her uterus and two ovaries, but it is impossible for her to have children.

"Expressions like 'adopto' do not comfort me, they are like throwing salt on the wound. As someone who has dreamed of putting her hand on her belly and feeling her baby move, knowing that I will never be able to do that is depressing," said Vics.

However, she has started to think of solutions regarding this and a surrogate mother is always an option to have a child together with her partner. She says that apart from her, it was also the family that had a hard time digesting the diagnosis.

"I know my mom blamed herself at first, I never did, but a lot of moms do," she said.

Vics is now 20 years old and has set up a foundation for MRKH syndrome to draw attention to it
