The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said that the strategic partnership with the United States of America is the main pillar for guaranteeing long-term stability in the Western Balkans.

She made these statements at the meeting with the U.S. Congressional delegation led by Congresswomen Claudia Tenney and Chrissy Houlahan, as well as with the Chargé d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo, Anu Prattipati.

"She [Osmani] underlined that every time the U.S. has been involved and played an active role in our region, sustainable solutions have been achieved and significant progress has been made," the press release issued by the Kosovo Presidency said.

According to the announcement, President Osmani discussed with the two American congresswomen the political and security situation in Kosovo, but also about strengthening the strategic partnership with the United States, especially in the field of defense, investments and further advancement of bilateral relations.

"Thanking the congressmen for the American support to Kosovo, President Osmani emphasized that close cooperation with the United States is also vital for the realization of the country's Euro-Atlantic goals, which remain an unwavering goal for the Republic of Kosovo," said the Presidency of Kosovo.

Kosovo aims to one day become part of the NATO alliance, and the United States has helped it build defense capacities. Washington also supports Kosovo's path towards integration into the European Union.

Also, on Friday, the incumbent Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, met with a delegation consisting of members of the staff of the US Congress and members of the Atlantic Council.

Kurti said that he talked with the staff members of the US Congress about the current political developments in Kosovo, about reforms, the fight against corruption, but also about Kosovo's journey towards the European Union.

The Prime Minister said that the meeting also discussed the strengthening of Kosovo's international subjectivity and the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia, which is mediated by the European Union.

The meetings in Pristina of heads of state with representatives of the US Congress come at a time when the international factor is calling on Kosovo to form the country's new institutions as soon as possible, after the elections are held in February.

The process of forming institutions has stalled, as MPs are failing to elect the new head of the Assembly and constitute the legislative body. After this step, the way would be opened for the formation of the new executive./REL
