Pakistan's national airline has come under fire for releasing an advertisement showing a plane flying towards the Eiffel Tower.
The ad is intended to promote the resumption of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to the French capital and has the caption "Paris, we are arriving today," the BBC reports.
Some social media users noted that the ad was reminiscent of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack in the US.
The photo has been viewed more than 21 million times on X since it was posted last Sunday and has sparked a swift reaction.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an investigation into the matter, while Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also criticized the advertisement, Pakistani media reported.
Some social media users have claimed that PIA had an advertisement in 1979 that showed the shadow of a passenger plane over the Twin Towers in New York, according to the BBC.

In 2016, the airline was criticized after staff sacrificed a goat before a flight to ward off bad luck following one of the country's worst air disasters, according to the British public broadcaster.
PIA also caused negative comments when it told flight attendants they had to lose weight or they would no longer be able to fly, and staff were told they had six months to lose "excess weight".
