US President Donald Trump has threatened to cut off all trade relations with Spain after the country's leftist government refused to allow US jets to use its bases to attack Iran and opposed an increase in the defence budget as part of NATO, AFP reports.

"Spain has been terrible," Trump told reporters during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

"We will cut off all trade with Spain. We don't want to have anything to do with Spain ," he said.

Trump further declared that the US military had succeeded, emphasizing that "almost everything in Iran has been destroyed."

He added that the war with Iran unfolded so quickly that Washington did not have time to prepare an evacuation plan for American embassies or to evacuate American citizens.

He made this comment when asked why the US did not have a plan to evacuate diplomatic missions or citizens when the situation escalated.
