Donald Trump, ready to fund armed groups against Iran (not to include US troops)

United States President Donald Trump is open to supporting Iranian groups willing to take up arms to overthrow the regime in Tehran, The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing US officials.

According to the newspaper's sources, Trump held a conversation with Kurdish leaders in Iran on Sunday and is continuously engaging with other regional figures who, according to reports, could benefit from the weakening of the Iranian regime.

Axios was the first to report on Trump's phone call with Kurdish leaders.

According to the report, Kurdish forces have a significant presence along the border between Iraq and Iran.

Israeli bombings of positions in western Iran have fueled speculation that the aim may be to create space for a possible Kurdish advance.

For its part, the White House has not directly confirmed such a plan.

"President Trump has spoken with many regional partners," White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said in a statement, without commenting on the president's specific intentions.
