Mitsotakis: Citizens will vote for who will govern and not for who will lead the
Kyriakos Mitsotakis

The Greek people will vote in the runoff elections on June 25 for the person who will govern and not the one who will lead the opposition, said the head of the "New Democracy" (DR), also the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis in an interview.

Mitsotakis said that the winners in the first round of the May 21 elections included, in addition to the DR, Greek society and political dialogue.

"Those who lost were poisoned vocabulary and vulgarity. It became clear that real society is elsewhere and not in the poisonous microcosm of social media," he said.

Asked to comment on the opposition, he expressed the hope that parties will talk more about party programs and people's real problems before the June 25 runoff.

"We will vote for the government, not for the opposition. What happens in the opposition is the business of SYRIZA, Progressive Alliance and PASOK and KINAL. I would like to express the hope that in this election period we will talk more about politics, about the real problems that citizens face. Every citizen who votes for the DR signs a responsibility contract with me", noted Mitsotakis, adding that the greater the margin of victory in the votes, the heavier the responsibility will be.

Mitsotakis also spoke about Greek-Turkish relations and said that he is not worried about the elections in the neighboring country.

However, despite improved relations, Turkey's basic territorial claims have not changed.

"No Greek prime minister - and certainly not me - will discuss issues of demilitarization of the islands, especially issues related to the sovereignty of the East Aegean islands. These are beyond discussion," he said, while adding that if he became prime minister again, he would seek to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the NATO summit in mid-July, provided the latter wins the runoff election. on May 28.
