The two photographs that became part of the list of National Geographic "Photographs of the year 2022" are also two from Kosovo.
The first photo is a Lada car enclosed in a glass "box" as a memorial to the heroes of the Kosovo Liberation Army. Zahir Pajaziti, Edmond Hoxha and Hakif Zejnullahu were traveling in that car when they were ambushed and killed.

On January 31, 1997, around 14:30 in Pestovë, Vushtrri, Zahir Pajaziti, Edmond Hoxha and Hakif Zejnullahu were killed in an ambush organized by the Serbian police forces.

The three strategists were traveling from Pristina to Vushtrri and their murder reverberated throughout the world, not only in Kosovo.
What is not yet known is who betrayed the 3 soldiers and doubts have often been raised about a possible de-conspiracy by the soldiers' friends themselves.

On January 31, 2008, on the 11th anniversary of the fall, the president of Kosovo, Fatmir Sejdiu, awarded Zahir Pajaziti the highest state decoration of Kosovo, the Hero of Kosovo Order.
Pajaziti was one of the co-founders of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
While the other photo shows a musician preparing for the inaugural performance of the Kosovo Opera at the Palace of Youth and Sports.

In the gallery are also other photographs from around the world that became part of the National Geographic list.
