"The Great Game of the 21st Century is the Arctic," Steve Bannon:
Trump wants Greenland

Former US President's strategist Steve Bannon, in an interview with Corriere della Sera, commented on US interventions in Venezuela and other countries around the world. He stated that, unlike Trump, he believes that sanctions and the economic destruction of a country bring down a regime.

"President Trump is leaving many options open, including the use of large-scale military force ," Steve Bannon tells Corriere, when asked if Trump's latest post on Truth, in which he promises Iranian protesters that "help is coming," means a military strike, perhaps even just a small one.

“Treasury Secretary Bessent explained in March at the Economic Club of New York how the mullahs can be brought down with sanctions, economic pressure and tariffs, and he has done so. The recent 25% tariffs on all trading partners isolate them. But Trump also keeps open the possibility of a military strike, because that gives him a geopolitical advantage ,” he said.

Bannon, a former Trump strategist and host of the War Room program, is among those who prefer sanctions to direct military intervention to overthrow regimes. “Trump is destroying the post-World War II international order because it goes against the ‘America First’ philosophy,” Bannon says. But unlike Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who criticized the intervention in Venezuela as going against the ‘America First’ idea, Bannon says that for Trump, priorities include not only controlling illegal immigrants and cities like Minneapolis, Portland and New York, but also protecting the Western Hemisphere.

Greene has praised the intervention in Venezuela as a military act, but has spoken of "the dangers after day one."

And now there is talk of a possible American attack on Iran. Was he against the attack on nuclear facilities in June, and now?

Venezuela should be seen in the context of the defense of the Western Hemisphere. The same will happen with Greenland, and I believe soon with Canada, the Arctic, and the Panama Canal.

Are Greenland and Canada the same as Venezuela?

It's the same logic. The Treasury Secretary just announced that Argentina has paid back a $20 billion loan it took out before Christmas... we saved Argentina and the right-wing government of Milley. In Venezuela, I didn't praise the intervention, but the extraordinary military performance. I don't really believe in regime change interventions. Just like now in Tehran. I said, like in July during the "12-Day War," that sanctions should do their job. The economy is collapsing, the mullahs are collapsing. We need, like in Venezuela, to seize the ghost ships, seize the oil that goes to the Chinese Communist Party, stop their money. And the Persian people will overthrow the theocrats, just as the people should overthrow the regime in Venezuela.

What will be the next steps?

The Great Game in the 19th century was Russia against Britain for ports and control of India, including Persia and Afghanistan. The Great Game of the 21st century is the Arctic: the Russians and the Chinese are moving in en masse. The most endangered part is Canada. It could become the 'next Ukraine' if not strengthened by the US. Trump has talked to the Canadians, they cannot defend themselves. China sees the Canadian Arctic as Russia saw Ukraine last century. It may try to take territory, but Trump will not allow it. The defense of the hemisphere extends from the Arctic to the end of South America. Guyana, Venezuela and the Gulf of Mexico to Texas contain 5-10 times more oil than the Persian Gulf. Greenland is key to blocking Russian access to the Atlantic.

It is a well-thought-out strategy by Trump. I do not really agree with some of the methods: we do not want the invasion of Venezuela or other countries, we must be careful, but for the moment the plan works. I believe that the situation in Cuba will be resolved within a year. The common thing in Venezuela, Iran and Cuba is that the economies are destroyed. If sanctions are imposed, the people will overthrow the regime for freedom and a normal life.

But there has been a US military intervention in Venezuela.

For now we have seen a small, surgical attack. Trump has learned from Iraq, I don't think he will go into the field with troops. We could see 'war' in Mexico against drug cartels. All this is 'America First'. In Iran, I have made it clear, nature must do its job. Trump has stopped Israel's broader involvement, dramatically ending the 12-day war. Israel wanted a "Greater Israel", Trump stopped them and brought two states. With the help of Qatar and Turkish, Egyptian, Emirati and Saudi troops there will be a Palestinian proto-state.

There are different ways to understand “America First”: what do you think of Marjorie Taylor Greene?

Trump is acting for hemispheric defense, he wants Reagan-like policies, and in a general sense, what he does is 100% America First. But if Ukraine or Israel gets involved, some might say, 'Wait, we don't want more involvement.'”

And for 2028?

Don't worry about 2028, the focus is on 2026. Trump will continue the revolution for two years and I will not run, but I will support him, so that he has a third term. But if we lose in 2026, the Democrats will not stop only at the impeachment of Trump, but will also be against Kristi Noem, Pete Hegseth and others… they will wage a political war to destroy Trump and the MAGA movement. For this, War Room Texas starts on Monday. On March 3 in Texas there is a referendum within the Republican primaries to ban sharia. We need another force to motivate voters. We are invincible if we are focused. That's why we chose Texas.
