Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has reacted to the opening to traffic of one of the bridges built by the government that connects the southern part of Mitrovica with the northern part.
In a post on social media, he also announces that work is continuing on the other bridge.
"It took less than two months to build the 36th bridge in Kosovo over the Ibar River. The bridge for vehicle crossings is open for traffic as of today at 9:00. Congratulations to the residents and citizens of South Mitrovica and North Mitrovica! Congratulations to the company and the workers for their exemplary commitment. Works on the other bridge are continuing," Kurti writes, alongside a photo of the bridge.
The bridge that has been opened is for vehicles and for people and is located next to the main bridge over the Ibar River, which is blocked to vehicle traffic and guarded by Italian carabinieri.
The cornerstone of two new bridges over the Ibar was laid in early July, in the presence of the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, who said that the goal is to connect North Mitrovica with South Mitrovica.
