US President Donald Trump held a conversation with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, after the summit at the White House with Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders last Monday.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office of the White House today, the US President said that the US is no longer spending money on Ukraine.
"We no longer spend money on Ukraine. We deal with NATO, not Ukraine," Donald Trump said, adding that no specific security guarantees for Kiev have been discussed, but that the US will be available to help.
Donald Trump said that if he had been president, the war in Ukraine "would never have happened". He emphasized that Putin does not want to hold a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky.
"Putin doesn't want to meet with Zelensky because he doesn't like her," he said.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he does not see any concessions from Moscow in the peace talks.
"As for Russia's concessions, I don't know anything about them. I don't think that what the Russian side said, that is, that they are ready to stop the invasion of Ukraine, are concessions. I don't think the fact that they're offering to withdraw from territories that Russia doesn't control is a concession. Because it was the United States that proposed, I remember, a ceasefire on March 7. We supported it," he explained.
