US President Donald Trump has lost one of his most loyal aides, the voice and face of the White House, Caroline Leavitt. It was Trump himself who, through a message on social media, announced that Caroline would be leaving office at the end of this month to devote more time to her family and two young children. Describing Leavitt as one of his most trusted aides, the US president said that he fully respects her choice.
"Caroline has been one of the best spokeswomen the White House has ever had and has done an extraordinary job defending justice, freedom, and the rights of citizens since 2018."
He added that the 28-year-old will remain one of the top outside advisers and an influential voice within the Republican Party. Leavitt is the latest in a series of senior Trump administration officials to leave office.
Since the beginning of the year, high-profile figures such as Attorney General Pam Bondi and former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have been removed from office.
However, Leavitt's departure comes shortly after her maternity leave, after she and her husband Nicholas Riccio became parents for the second time with a daughter. The 28-year-old described serving as White House press secretary as the honor and adventure of her life. She thanked Trump for his trust while explaining that juggling duty and motherhood had become increasingly difficult.
Leavitt became the youngest White House press secretary in history and was noted for her direct, often confrontational style with reporters. During her tenure, the Trump administration changed media access rules, taking more control over the selection of reporters who could cover the president.
