Gabriel Escobar

The special envoy of the United States of America for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar , has stated that corruption in the Balkans is a big problem in this region.

He emphasized that the US wants to see the European road open for all the countries of the Western Balkans.

"Corruption is a big problem in the whole region. I am happy to see that during the accession process the focus is on the rule of law as a condition for EU membership," said Escobar.

Among other things, he says that the Biden administration is committed to the fight against corruption, while warning that some people from North Macedonia are expected to be sanctioned by the United States.

"President Biden's administration is committed to the fight against corruption. I can't talk about the sanctions, but you can be sure that there will be," said Escobar.
