China reveals first case of bird flu in humans

China has confirmed the first case of H3N8 bird flu in humans.

The National Health Commission in China announces that the person infected with the H3N8 virus is a 4-year-old boy from Henan province.

The infected person showed the first symptoms on April 5, however according to the health authorities in the country none of the close contacts of the 4-year-old was affected by bird flu. It is learned that the infected person had daily contact with birds in his home.

The H3N8 variant has been found in the past in horses, dogs, birds and seals, but cases of H3N8 have never been reported in humans before, said the National Health Commission in China.
