The High Representative for Foreign Affairs of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, concluded a visit to three Western Balkan countries on Saturday.
She visited Serbia, Kosovo, and North Macedonia. In all three countries she went to, she gave some clear messages, which she briefly summarized in a post on social media.
"The Western Balkans are of strategic importance for the European Union," she wrote, adding that enlargement with this region is "the most important geopolitical project for the EU" and also "a personal priority" for her.
But what messages did Kallas say?
In Kosovo, she focused on the political impasse, encouraging all political actors to overcome it and form a government as soon as possible.
"Leaders must put aside divisions and prioritize the future of Kosovo," she wrote on Instagram.
During her visit to Belgrade, the EU High Representative urged political leaders to complete the necessary reforms and "clarify the strategic direction" of the country.
"This is best done by restoring trust and being true to democratic principles," she said, as civil society meetings were also held in Serbia.
Meanwhile, in North Macedonia, he called for progress on the path towards the European Union.
"North Macedonia belongs to our European family," Kallas said.
