Safaa Ahmed, a popular Syrian TV anchor, has been killed along with two others in an overnight Israeli strike in Damascus, Syrian state news agency SANA reported.
"The General Authority for Radio and Television announces the death of anchor Safaa Ahmed following the treacherous Israeli aggression in the capital Damascus," the report says according to CNN.
The Syrian Defense Ministry said the Israeli army targeted Damascus with drones and planes at around 2am local time from "the direction of the occupied Golan Heights".
"Our air defense systems confronted the missiles and drones of the aggression and shot down most of them," the ministry said, adding that three civilians and nine others were injured as a result of the attack.
An explosion occurred near a building in Syria, west of the city's military airport.
It is not clear if this is where Ahmad or the others were killed, and the location of their deaths was not reported by SANA.
When asked about the reports, the Israeli military said: "We do not comment on reports in foreign media."
Israel has launched airstrikes in Syria intermittently since the Hamas attacks on October 7 last year, but usually does not confirm when it has carried out strikes there.
