Marcelo Pecci, a Paraguayan prosecutor engaged in the fight against drug trafficking has been executed while on his honeymoon on a Colombian Caribbean island.
The perpetrators fled the sea according to police.
The president of Paraguay called the crime a "cowardly murder".
Pecci, 45, was shot twice while resting on a beach on the resort island of Baru, according to his wife, Claudia Aguilera.
The couple got married on April 30 in Cartagena.
"Two men attacked Marcelon. "They came from the sea in a small boat, or a jet ski, the truth is that I did not see him well," Aguilera told El Tiempo newspaper. "in the face and another in the body," she said.
Aguilera, who is pregnant, said her husband had not received any threats before.

The latest post on Aguilera's Instagram account on Tuesday showed a couple embracing on a beach and a pair of baby shoes in the foreground in what appeared to be a pregnancy announcement.
The motive for the killing was not immediately known, but Paraguayan prosecutor Augusto Salas, a Pecci colleague, said the attack seemed "typical of the drug mafia."
Colombian police chief Jorge Luis Vargas said five murder investigators have been sent to Baru and will receive support from Paraguayan and American experts.
"There is information being gathered that will help us identify those responsible," Vargas said.
Late Tuesday, Colombian police released a photo of one of the alleged attackers, wearing black shorts and a beige hat.
Colombia, the world's largest producer of cocaine, is facing a wave of violence despite a 2016 peace deal that disarmed the FARC guerrilla group and ended a nearly six-decade-old civil conflict. For its part, the landlocked Paraguay, located between Brazil, Bolivia and Argentina, has become an important starting point for drugs heading towards Europe.
Paraguay and Colombia have recently strengthened their alliance in the fight against organized and cross-border crime.
