Security pact signed: Britain will come to Sweden's aid if attacked

The United Kingdom and Sweden have signed a security pact, under which the two countries pledge to help each other militarily in the event of an attack.

Britain is expected to sign a similar agreement with Finland.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the UK would come to Sweden's aid in the attack. Sweden, along with Finland, have been seriously discussing NATO membership since Russia invaded Ukraine. Johnson said that whatever Stockholm decides, Britain will support it.

Asked what happens if Sweden applies for NATO but needs help before becoming a full member, Johnson said: "In the event of an attack, Britain will come to Sweden's aid with whatever way Sweden wants to go. "
